Corinne at MOBO

The 2010 MOBO (Music of Black Origin) Awards were held this year in Liverpool, England.  This award show showcases urban artists and acts.  On MOBO’s official website, it states that MOBO has “played an instrumental role in elevating black music and culture to mainstream popular status in the UK.”  Well, kudos to MOBO for doing that.  One of the musicians attending MOBO, the beautiful Corinne Bailey Rae, looked elegant & chic, as expected, wearing two ensembles during the night.

This forest green color goes great with Rae’s glowing skin.

Did we mention how gorgeous her hair looks?  As far as the makeup goes, a little less blush would have been just right.

This long black dress defines sex appeal without showing too much skin.  It covers her body, but it is a tight fit, not too tight, and the low V neckline adds just the right hint of sexiness.

One trend for fall/winter 2010 is dressing like it’s circa 1959 to the early 1960s.  This means the return of wide/full skirts or dresses, sheath dresses, and hemlines below the knees.

Trending: 1970s Fashion

The 1970s was the decade of decadence, freedom & soul, and the fashion reflected that as well.  From the wide leg pants, to the silk and satin blouses, to the platforms, the 70s marked an era for the first time where everyone was free to explore & showcase sexuality without the backlash that would’ve most definitely been received in prior decades.  70s fashion made women look bold & sure of their looks and most important themselves.  This is my all time favorite era of fashion & lifestyle that I innately carry over to these modern times.  Below are a couple of staple looks that define this era.

Two Sleek Looks for the Office

If you want to look professional and stylish while at work or handling your business, these two looks will do just that.  You cannot ever go wrong with a simple white button down long sleeve blouse.  That is a staple that every woman should carry in wardrobe, even if you prefer not to wear it with the rest of the ensemble below.  A pencil skirt brings out your curves, but is modest enough to not reveal too much leg.  Yes, these pumps are the business.  And the best thing about them is that they can be found at an inexpensive price at Bakers, yes ladies.

Pumps (in order of appearance):

1. Sofie (green), these pumps go for $59.99 and come in tan & black as well

2. Black Suede Tenly, these pumps go for $79.95

3. BlueTenley, last but not least, these pumps are for the risk taker in all of us; it is always recommended that if you want to be bold, do it with one piece of your wardrobe, hence the term, “statement piece”; these blue pumps are right for that

V for Velvet

Velvet can be a sophisticated choice of fabric to wear, when done right of course.  We can agree that velvet can be a difficult look to pull off, but when you select the right kind of styles like the pieces shown below, velvet can be just as chic as a silk blouse, or a chiffon or lace embellished dress.
